Coding
As the Coding Agency, DC/BR is solely responsible for determining and assigning codes in the ANNA database to enable the identification of securities for market transactions, subsequent administrative processing, securities issuances, and corporate actions.
As such, it exclusively assigns securities codes for the WAEMU region in accordance with the following standards: ISO 6166 (ISIN code), ISO 10962 (CFI code), and ISO 18774 (FISN code). The International Securities Identification Number (ISIN), Classification of Financial Instruments (CFI), and Financial Instrument Short Name (FISN) are the primary identifiers assigned to securities recorded in the DC/BR books.
Each assigned code is definitive and unique to the identified security. As a Coding Agency, DC/BR is a member of the Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA).
ANNA aims to maintain and promote the international ISO 6166 standard for the identification of financial instruments (stocks, bonds, notes, etc.). It also seeks to provide its members and the securities industry with a standardized identification code structure (ISIN code). ANNA comprises 120 numbering agencies worldwide.
The identification of a financial instrument by an ISIN code provides investors with assurance, given ANNA's global reputation as the leading institution authorized to offer expertise in financial instrument coding. The ISIN code is also designed to facilitate transactions and ensure the seamless and secure completion of settlement procedures.
